I am having the exact same issue. There is a detailed discussion about why the codec is not supported on Windows 7 at this link:did not try the virtualization option for XP under Windows 7. However that seems heavyweight when what is needed is a codec implementation for Windows 7 so the AVI files just play. Given Ligos Indeo has no support option for Windows 7, does Microsofthave an option? This codec was part of XP, and without it in Windows 7, many users have AVI files that simply don't carry forward.

Windows media player 12.0. 1gig viedo ram.Indeo Interactive IV50 codec are not available to me now that I've gone to Windows 7.Same videos that don't work for me now, do work on my older, slower, Windows XP box.Because I'm a a Home Premium user, I cant apparently do the work around mentioned above to use XP emulation mode.Since a Codec is not available from Indeo Interactive, I'm wondering if Microsoft might want to quick develop a Codec fix for this issue.Not having a convenient codec to resolve this issue lessens the value of Win 7 and of Media Player 12.
